I need help with a discussion we've had here in our CAD group on the correct way to deal with tolerance notations on the title block of drawings. The problem is that our standard TB notes state that .X +/- 0.1 , .XX +/- 0.02, .XXX +/- 0.010, & .XXXX +/- 0.0010, which in and of itself is not the issue. We seldom use the 1 place decimal dimensions and the 4 place is only used with molded items, but, most of our products are not molded. The question comes up on the correct way to deal with TBs that have un-needed tolerance notations. In the case where neither the 1 place (.X +/- 0.1)nor the 4 place (.XXXX +/- 0.0010) is used in the drawing what should actually be done to these parts of the standard title block? One thought is that those not being used are simply ignored since they are not in the drawing. Another thought is to eliminate them entirely and add as needed. One is to cross through these so that there is no confusion. But, the strangest, an one that simply makes no sense to me, is the last concept: It is thought that we should make all the numbers 0 (i.e. .XXXX +/- 0.0000) if that is place decimal is not being used. That to me seems rediculous as it says that if we HAPPEN to have that dimension on the drawing then it will have to be perfect, which of course, is impossible. Does anyone have thoughts on this or have run across it at any time? Thanks for your help |

Hi, As far as I see. You need not change anything. See if you donot have a 1 decimal or 4 deciaml dimension then
You add these tolerances in the standard template because you have a chance of having these dimensions sometime. so its OK . donot change anything. And for changing the tolerance to 0.0000: Thats a No-no..
Hope that has helped you. |
