I have been asked to create a drafting standards manual for the small manufacturing company I work for. We use AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD and deal primarily with sheet metal and steel tubing. Can anyone give me some ideas as to how to go about this? I was thinking of starting with some basic manual and customizing it for our purposes. Does this basic manual exist? |

start a document and list the following:
introduction basic line work cell libraries drawing scales borders - titleblock/revision block etc numbering lettering and text - rules,a bbreviations, size, line weights, line spacing etc dimensioning weld symbols Write a paragraph on each of the above and then begin to edit and add to it until you have covered every aspect of what goes onto the drawing and how it gets there |

Welcome to the Engineers Edge! You mention AutoCAD, so I wonder if you are also looking to create a CAD standards manual as drafting requirements are separate from CAD standards. A recognized industry standard within Aerospace, automotive, medicine and others is the IHS Global Engineering Documents Drawing Requirments Manual. |
