Hi all. I need to ask two questions. First, is it possible to create a drawing file whose base view IS a cutaway view? (I assume in can just place the base view outside of the sheet and print it that way, if I need to) I also need to be able to select certain items to cut away. Specifically, I have an assembly that has a cylindrical outter shell with various components inside that I want to annotate, so I wanna slice through the shell and display almost all the other stuff as solid. How do I do that? The help files aren't very ... helpful. Thanks, Bruno

Hi Bruno, Inventor is able to let u create a cut away view of a part(section view of a parts) either at ipt. or iam. or idw. I think you can do a section part view for the cylindrical part in iam. so that you can view the part inside. Then you can direct print from iam. or import to idw. to print it. Regards,

I beleive the answer to your questions is yes you can create a "section" view initially in your .idw without creating a standard elevation and then drawing a section line out in "AutoCAD Heaven". As I haven't done it this way before, I am going off my memory from my Invnetor training like a year back. Basically, in your Assembly File (.iam), at the top of your browser tree, you should see a "Representations" Folder. From here you should be able to create your sliced view, and save it as a level of detail. Then, when you import your .iam into the .idw, you choose the level of detail you saved as the section view for your main view. Regarding showing the stuff as a "solid"...that is an option if you "right click" on the view, and choose "Edit View". down in the lower right corner you should see three little buttons under "Syles". They are hidden line, Hidden line removed, and shaded. Select shaded. that will make all your line drawings "render" and look solid. |
