DANSOFT Download
A geotechnics-oriented FE package: analysis of loadings, displacements, strains and stresses in 1-4(!)D material structures. Includes elastoplasticity and viscoplasticity. PC executable and Fortran 77/90 source code. It has been compiled on many platforms. The DANSOFT package includes DANMESH (FE mesh generator), DANFE (FE engine) and DANPLOT (interactive postprocessor). The program is based on the implementation of the FE method as described in Smith and Griffiths ``Programming the Finite Element Method''.

ALBERT Download
ALBERT is an Adaptive multiLevel finite element toolbox using Bisectioning refinement and Error control by Residual Techniques. Platforms include: Linux, and UNIX based workstations from DEC, HP, SGI, and Sun. Requires BLAS. OpenGL (or Mesa) is recommended.

CalculiX Download
A 3D structural analysis FE program. CalculiX is available under the terms of the GNU public license. The CalculiX package includes a pre/post processor (GraphiX:cgx) based on hexahedral elements, and the solution engine (CrunchiX:ccx). Models with up to 150,000 df have been analysed. Finite element capabilities include linear and non-linear (material, geometric) static and dynamic analysis, buckling and frequency analysis. Material models include linear elastic, hyperelastic, deformation plasticity and incremental plasticity. Further extensions (heat transfer, viscoplasticity, contact/frictional boundary conditions) are planned.

ALADDIN Download
ALADDIN is a computational toolkit for matrices. ALADDIN views Finite Element Analysis as a specialised matrix computation. ALADDIN is being developed at the Institute for Systems Research, University of Maryland, College Park, USA, under the financial sponsorship of the Federal Highway Administration and the National Science Foundation. ALADDIN includes a mesh generation package. The ALADDIN finite element library currently comprises elements for plane stress/strain, 2D beam/column analysis, 3D truss analysis, DKQ plate analysis, and a variety of shell finite elements. ALADDIN has been tested on a SUN SPARCstation, DECstation 5000, and IBM RS/6000.

Adventure Download
The ADVanced ENgineering analysis Tool for Ultra large REal world ADVENTURE is another ambitious Japanese FE-based project using the resources of the "world's fastest computer 30-100 Tflops in 2002", but see also GeoFEM which is designed to operate in a similar virtual computing environment (the Earth Simulator). The 2 projects could well be using the same hardware(?). The ADVENTURE Project focuses attention on computational mechanics problems with large variations in scale. Such an application might require an FE model with 10-100 million DOF. With a virtual parallel computer capable of 30-100 Tflops the problem could be analysed on a time scale of 1 hr-1 day. Platforms: The base development and operating system RedHat Linux 7.2 on Intel x86. However the modules may be compiled and installed under any Unix system with C/C++/F90 compilers, with OpenGL/Motif graphics and MPI communications library
