I believe that Binding head screws are used in sheet metal application where the cutout on the bottom of the screw acts to clear the sheet metal hole "bend out". The "bend out" is due to the self tapping action of the screw acting on the sheetmetal hole area. If you have pre drilled holes you may be able to switch. I would look real hard at your particular application to determine if a "bend out" condition is present before I changed to regular pan heads.
