It is common to "steal" data from a different diameter thread off the thread chart in "Machinery's Handbook" and use the information converted to the nominal dimater of the thread you are making... for example you could "steal" the major diameter of .0595" and minor diameter of .0442 from the data on a 0-80 UNF thread and apply it to 1/4". Getting a .249 major diameter less the difference in the 0-80 UNF which is .0153. This gives you a minor diameter of .2337". Doing the same with the pitch diameter gives you a pitch diameter of .2409". You "steal" the tolerances and apply them in the same way. You now have a 1/4-80 UN...super fine. 1/4-80, Major dia. .249/.2458, Pitch dia. .2409/.2391, Minor dia. .2337, for a class 2A The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |

A .250-80 thread seems unique. I would contact the originator of the drawing or request and check to see if it is a typo. If not, check Machinery's for the UNS thread equations for major, minor and pitch diameter. I would not order tooling untill I was sure that is what the cuistomer wanted. Moreover, this will give you a chance to communicate that you need time to buy the tool. |
