hole placement in steel plate Question

I would like to drill a 3/4" hole in a piece of 1/2" steel (probably mild steel) plate. How far from the edge must it be to be full strength in the 1/2" plate? The load will be static and perpendicular to the grain of the plate (I'm fabricating side plates for a beam trolley).

in order to get maximum strength you need use a simple guideline, at least half a hole size from the edge of part to edge of hole, that goes for just about all materials and hole sizes
