We are looking at couple new die designs one is a copper sheet metal product, and the other is HRS sheet both approimately .030 thick. In a high volume application is there a benifit to modern punch coatings? If so what coating and punch materials do you guys like? Thanks for the great advice as usual.. |

I'd take a close look at TiAIN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride Coating) often called Aluminum Titanium Nitride. This is a multi layered ceramic coating with good bonding, smooth texture, extreme hardenss, and top shelf ware qualities. I have never applied it to copper production tools but it seems to make a lot of sense considering the sticky nature of copper. The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |

An organization that I am familier with uses vapor deposition (PVD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and thermal reactive diffusion (TRD). As you as aware these coatings are to protect the tool against abrasion, adhesive, and corrosive wear while maintaining the tool dimensiobnal geometry. |
