Hi all. I am working on a typical 2" (52 mm) diameter with visor gauge. The bezel is chromed and it is crimped into the gauge housing. The crimping acts as "packing" agent to the gauge guts and also press a rubber component to give some level of sealing to the assembly. My problem is the crimping tool which I do not have and I am not able to find it easily in the market. I have a few concepts on sketch and a potential to get a crimping system from a major gauge manufacturer. Nonetheless, considering the target volume, I would fell more confident if the solution could be developed and implemented in-house. I am looking for a small machine/tool to crimp the bezel rim into the housing rim. If anyone of you has suggestions or directions on how to get it done, I would appreciate the help. Regards, Dyan |

What quanity are you going to be dealing with?
Generally, one would use a staking tool. These are tools which go in a machine and spin around the assembly and roll the area to be crimped similar to how a tubing cutter works. You could design one in house. Your machine shop team will understand. You design it spring loaded. After inserting the gauge and clamping it from moving in a jig, you flip a lever of some type engaging the spring loaded rollers and spin down the crimped area. The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |

Attached is the bezel (w/ glass) housing interface. The bezel is chromed and the housing is injected ABS. The bezel is filled w/ foam that seals against the glass. This is not shown. Thank you.
