I have a question regarding good welding practice. I have two 1" thick mild steel plates set at right angles and the joint is to be welded. My welder's preference is to place them edge to edge, as in the attachment, and the groove formed on the outside corner has 1" sides and is to be filled with weld. My question is will this form a strong joint or will this configuration weeken the joint?
