Ok, here is where I admit I haven't a clue. I am trying to figure out how much airflow I will need in an enclosure to maintain the internal temperature within 10 degrees of ambient air temperature with the only source of heat being that of direct sunlight. The enclosure will be a putty white color, which should not absorb as much heat as a darker color and the total surface area subjected to direct sunlight will be approximately 23 square feet. Total volume inside the enclosure will be 17.5 cubic feet.

I know altitude will play a factor in this as well. I found a calculator online but it is used for enclosures that house heat generating equipment and factors in "stray power." Can you guys point me in a good direction to determine how much "stray power" is generated by good ol' Mr. Sunshine?

Here is a link to the calculator I found:

https://www.stego.de/nc/us/calculation/cooling-calculation.html

Thanks in advance,

Ron

Seems that you are happy with what you have got. If you want more I can give you figure for solar irradiation on surfaces. Need to know latitude, angle of surface relative to horizontal and to North. Info comes from ASHRAE or CIBSE.

Ron are you going to cool (fan) the box if it gets over-heated?

Yes, the fan will be thermostatically operated. The thermostat is adjustable and will be set in accordance with local requirements.

Well...I think your job is done. The fan and thermostat should keep well within your temp requirements.

No problem....I'll get that done by the end of the day. I'll need someone to check my math.

Kelly...Does Randy get a retention bonus?

..ha ha ha ha... .. ... ... . . . ha

Yeah, I'm lined up to get some of that 30 million those bank officers have to give back.

I can't remember if retention is what you do to your belt when you loose weight or what your wife does to you when you aren't listening. Or is it why I don't remember which it is???

... or is it what you do to your budget when your job goes the way of the ecomony.

BTW...What was this thead about?

Oh, I remember, retention is what you attempt do at work on Monday morning after you get your coffee and sit down to fire up your CAD system. ...as it relates to tension, stress, attention, memory recall, AND ... "did I really do it that way Friday?.. what was I thinking? .... KOOL... I wish I was that sharp this morning!"

The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them.
