Hi, I want to make the ideal thread for maximum tensile load capacity. I have two diameter 120 mm solid bars which I want to connect with with a male and a female thread. (pin and box thread).

Can you give me some idea how it should be designed?

The main fact is that the box will be a hollow cilinder , so the pin shall be a small as possible .
Any way, the join will never hold the same load as the full bar.

Welcome to the Engineers Edge!

Pin and Box Thread? I would consider Acme stub threads - see:

and

Hi Thanks,

Pin and box thread - I mean the bar will have no muff coupling.
