Hello All, I need to select a material which would give high gloss finish as if a ABS plastic material is chrome plated..I need to select a sheet metal may be aluminum alloy or brass.. I need all your thoughts on different aluminum alloys and their specific trade names which would give that gloss finish...(preferably, no additional finishing processes) |

Hi rikas,
All the surface polishing wont stay for long without chemical protection of some sort . What I have done to small parts is affixed metalized polyester film on the alum. plate which was just polished and passivated . Another solution is to go to SS304 polished . You can polish most aluminum alloys to a bright almost reflective finish. I don't think the polish will stand up to harsh environments. Some aircraft Alclads - like 2024 - T3 are shiny.. |

How about 1100 - H14 (strain hardened), 1045 O (full soft)...Actually, i dont need strength but only aesthetic function. The emissivity for above said mats. are 0.0500, and reflective index is 0.896...Does these figures guarantee me the finish which i can get in chrome plated (electro plating process) ABS plastic (injection molded)??? Sorry if i dont give you specific data..because, thats the degree of my freshness in this area.... |
