I'm trying to design a product and have reached a stumbling block with one of the mechanisms. I need to come up with a mechanism that would allow two concentric cylinders to work as follows: Turn the outer one 10 degrees COUNTER-CLOCKWISE and it "locks" to the inner one and begins to turn it COUNTER-CLOCKWISE as well. Turn the outer one CLOCKWISE and it goes 20 degrees before "locking" to the inner one and turning it CLOCKWISE as well. With each cycle COUNTER-CLOCKWISE, then CLOCKWISE; the outer cylinder would progress 10 degrees more around the inner cylinder. Any help is GREATLY appreciated! |

That sounds a lot like the high-dollar, brand name, 3/8" drive socket wrench (aka ratchet) I have in my tool box.
