I have a fellow worker and we are in dis agreement as to the strrngth of fasteners. The argument is as follows:

What has a stronger head break off strength a hex bolt or a Socket head cap screw. Given that they are of the same grade and quality.

You should consult a company that makes both types. I'm sure they publish that data. Try Unbrako or Holokrome for example.

For the same size fasteners and identical material the grip - head cross section or area is identical. The difference is that the bearing or contact area of a socket head is less than the hex.

I suspect that the load bearing material area within the cap head maybe less than the hex head.

Key word here is "SUSPECT" - if true then the hex may carry more axial tension loading.
