I need to evaluate the air consumption of a few different air powered devices to estimate how much of a load they are putting on a compressor. My problem is that every rating I read has a cfm value at a certain pressure value, but all of the pressure values are different so its like comparing apples and oranges. How can I calculate the volume flow at a certain pressure so I can start comparing apples to apples? Thanks ahead of time for any help anyone can provide. |

Why don't you just get an air flow meter and test each of the devices. Depending of the length and diameter of the supply pipes, as well as the effects on flow by the many interconnets you will likely get some flow less than rated. |

Thanks a lot for your help, I was talking it over with a chemcial engineer and we decided that we could probably get a good enough estimate using the ideal gas properties of air. I also tried using mass flow at steady state and got the same answer within 3%. Let me know if you think this will give me too much error. Thanks again for your time. |
