The following formulas will determine spacing requirements for selected applications.

**Where the edge distance is equal to the spacing formula**:

P = *l* / ( n + 1 )

Where:

l = Total length,

n = Number of holes or features

**Where the edge distance is not equal to the spacing formula:**

p = [ * l *- ( a + b ) ] / ( n + 1 )

Where:

*l* = total length

p = spacing

n = number of holes

a, b = edge distances

**When subdividing into pieces spacing formula: **

**Number of pieces formula**:

Z = *l* / ( *l*_{s} + s )

or

*l*_{s} = *l* / Z - s

**Remaining length formula**:

*l*_{r} = *l* - Z · ( *l*_{s} + s )

Where:

*l* = total length

p = spacing

Z = number of pieces

*l*_{s} = piece length

*l*_{r} = remaining piece length

s = saw cutting length (kerf)
