Eckert Number Equation and Calculator

The Eckert number is dimensionless and is defined as the ratio of the advective mass transfer to the heat dissipation potential. The Eckert number provides a measure of the kinetic energy of the flow relative to the enthalpy difference across the thermal boundary layer. It is used to characterize heat dissipation in high-speed flows for which viscous dissipation is significant.

Where:

V = Characteristic Velocity of Flow (m/s)
cp = Constant-Pressure Specific Heat of Flow (m/s2 K)
ΔT = Temperature Difference (K)
Ti = Temperature intial (K)
Tf = Temperature final (K)
Ec = Eckert Number = Advective Transport/(Heat Dissipitation Potential) (dimensionless)
