Heat Transfer Coefficient for Condensation Formula and Calculator

Applies to pure vapors on solid horizontal tube surface of diameter D. For moderate temperature differences Eq. 1 have been confirmed experimentally within ± 10% for single horizontal tubes. They also seem to give satisfactory results for bundles of horizontal tubes, in spite of the complications introduced by condensate dripping from tube to tube.

Eq. 1
For film on horizontal tubes
hm = 0.725 · [ ( k3 · ρ2 · g · ΔHvap ) / ( µ · D · ( Td - To ) (1/4) ]

Where:

k = Thermal Conductivity (J/m s K)
ρ = Density (g/cc)
g = Acceleration Due to Gravity (m/s2)
µ = Viscosity (cP)
D = Diameter (m)
Td = Dew Point Temperature (K)
To = Original Temperature (K)
ΔHvap = Heat of Vaporization (J ft2/s2)
hm = Heat Transfer Coefficient (W/m K)
