Real world rigging problem

I'm back. :)
And, unfortunately, meeting with the client tomorrow afternoon.

Referencing the attached pdf...

I need to rig a video wall on a pipe grid.

The grid is 6' x 6', schedule 40 black pipe.
The pipe grid is load rated: 375# Center Point Load (CPL).


Each end of the pipe is welded to a 12" hexagonal plate, which is in turn welded to a vertical stanchion.
The rating on the stanchion is 1500#.

I am very, very, very comfortable calculating the loads of each of the points of attachment of the video wall.
I do that almost every day. (Like for Metallica, with a load of around 320,000 pounds hanging from the grid.)

But this is a somewhat smaller venue, with a corresponding lighter weight grid.

The video wall will be suspended by 3/8" wire rope, I'll probably spec 7x19 GAC.
This creates what is essentially a point load on the pipe.

All of the above is background information...
the real question is how do i figure out what the "crushing" point is for 1.5" schedule 40 pipe?

And, with a nod to Mr. Pinkerton (whom I miss on this forum), I realize that asking for this type of information over the internet will likely result in the venue exploding from internal forces, or, at least catching on fire and killing thousands of people.
I'm willing to live with that possibility.

By "Crushing" do you mean compression? Vertical, along the length or buckling load or perpendicular to the length, across the section cylindrical to flat?

Is this the clamping/crushing force on the pipe?

Yes, we created a new integrated registration/login system a few years back. You already have an account on the forums however it was not migrated to the new system which is why you can't get to that document/file. I think the best way is to either create a new account but different and then access the file. I think the file does require a premium account though.

If you're not in a hurry, let me look at the backend and see if I can populate your original old timer account into the new system.

Also, I think Pinkerton retired several years ago. Haven't seen him logged in for several years and is missed..

You have a PM - found your account it has a different login.

You might want to look around, there's probably 60-100+ new excel down loads, 50 - 100 new online engineering, manufacturing, management books, and white papers. Also, we're adding new stuff every week. My new book Geometric Boundaries III per. ASME Y14.5-2009 is on line now.

I'm working on another book Geometric Boundaries IV per. ASME Y14.5-2018 and will release ASAP.
