Bolt load calculation
Hi Folks
I need some help with a bolt load calc.
I have carried out the calc on FEA and need to check the calc by hand.
I have a block bolted down with 4 bolts which has a load at one corner (see sketch)

What is the load on each bolt so I can apply the correct loading torque ?
Thanks

Loading torque? Is it a static application? Sounds like your asking for a bolt torque...
Am I missing something or are you actually looking for a bolt size for the applied shear?
First determine the total shear load on each of the individual bolts. You will have greater shear load on the outer bolts than the inner bolts due to the applied torque. You can use vector math on each bolt to determine the applied shear due to the torque and vertical loading. Then back calculate the bolt cross section based on your desired bolt material with the FOS.
You can determine the pre-load with the following.

Thanks Kelly.
I am having one of my stupid days and can not for the life of me think how to calc the loads on the sketch attached.
Any chance you can help.

Thanks Kelly. Calcs now tie in with FEA.

I know this thread is complete - however EE now has an online calculator that does the work..
