Study on Reciprocating compressor's capacity control

I'm doing my project on an Industrial Hydrogen reciprocating compressor and the capacity control technique that is being implemented. I have to study the efficiency of the current set up and determine the feasibility of replacing the current system of capacity control which is the "Step capacity control" with "Step less capacity control system".

I would like to know how to proceed through this, what are the readings I am supposed to take and consider, what are the calculations that I have to perform and so on. Thank you.
