    Calculation Question on Heat Pump

A heat pump is to be used for heating season. In the heating cycle, the outside temperature is -5 degrees Celsius. The heat loss from the house is 60 kW if the house is maintained at a comfort condition of 20 degrees Celsius. Determine the minimum electric power required to operate the heat pump.

Can someone advise on the approach to solve the problem?

This sounds like a homework question, almost verbatim from the book. As such, it is contrary to our TOS which does not allow us to assist with homework.

But, to get you started, I s***est you scour your course notes as I have never seen a homework question posed that did not relate directly back to some basic understanding and methods of calculation earlier on in the course.

I'll give a small hint. that may pass our policy of not answering homework problems

Think of a Carnot cycle and the 2nd law of Thermodynamics.
