    Confused Voltage Drop Calculation of a Cu Bus Bar

    I want to know how to calculate the Voltage drop of a Cu Bus Bar?
    Mains Voltage = 415V
    Current Rating = 2500 Amp
    Bus Bar Length = 7meters
    Size = 200 x 10 mm
    Resistivity = 0.01724 ohm m/ mm sq

    And please let me know how to decrease voltage drop?
    Is it done by increasing the cross section area of the Bus Bar because in this case the length of the bus bar can not be decreased..

    Thank You,
    Salman.

    Hi,
    I would have to say that if you are working with that Voltage and Amperage and are asking such a very basic question, you should probably hand this off to someone who better understands electricity.

    At that VA it can vaporize human body parts if your calculations are incorrect. I am not just talking about your voltage drop calculations but the design and calculation of the entire thing.

    I am not walking away from this question, I am running.

    If this is homework then two things.
    1: Please read our policy on homework.
    2: If you are this stage in a course and you still need to ask such basic questions then a career path reassessment is strongly advised.

    To decrease the voltage drop you need to change the Resistivity. Since you can't change the effective size or area, I would look at alternative materials or even plating the bus bar.
