    Chain Analysis

I am doing chain analysis using photoelastic method and strain gauge..I need formulas for stress calculations in both cases i.e photoelastic method and strain gauge method..can anyone help me?

Well, first off, what kind of chain? Trucker's chain or power transmission chain. I would think either way, a call to some chain (of your choice) manufacturers for data sheets would be the quickest approach. Here in the US, Stock Drive Products provide thousands of pages of technical data, including methods for evaluating mechanical properties.

its power transmission chain..i have to calculate stress and strain values by photoelastic method and then by strain gauge method..

You are required to use two different methods? There is only one place I know that would require two methods - school. This is a homework assignment. Right?

Well, strain gage method is nothing more than a wheatstone bridge or more basically Mohrs Circle method..

I'm not sure about what your looking for in the "photoelastic method"

Gotta say JB, I think you are right on the money. That's why my response was sufficiently vague.

@kelly: Thnxs for the help..In case of photoelastic method, i have used polarizer in order to determine various fringe patterns on the chain link which is made of plastic. But i am struggling in calculation part.. and i cant find about fringe patterns anywhere..my tutor also dont know anything about this..
