    Protect a water filled electronic device from breaking at freezing temperatures

    We have an electronic device that contains a sealed water filled tube. If the device is exposed to freezing temperatures the expansion causes the tube to break. I am thinking of creating a plug with a glass filled vial of some liquid that freezes before water and would burst to allow the water to drain and protect the device. Does anyone know of a company that makes vials that are designed to break at certain temperatures or ha anyone heard of something like this done before via a different solution.

    Assuming you are not dealing with cryogenic temperatures, would it be possible to use a tube material with lower elastic modulus that would accomodate the water/ice expansion experienced? For example, LDPE or TFE.
