From experience, I'd say Solidworks is probably the most common. It also depends on the industry sector, I suppose, as to which package performs the best for the task at hand.
Which is more commonly used in industry:
- Autodesk Inventor
- Solidworks
I have used both at University level but would like to know
which one is more commonly used in industry

In my travels - Solid Works seems to rule though long time ago AutoCad ruled in small business.

From a good experience, I'd say Solidworks is the most common. It also depends on the industry sector in which you want to work.
Small-sized even medium-size companies- Solidworks
Medium-size, Big corporations - PTC Creo
I used PTC Creo since College years and is all around package unlike solidworks.
Both of them are most usage. But according to your needs your can try.
From the experience, I think Autodesk fusion360 is now replacing Solidworks as it is having mare advanced features and cloud storage.
I think most of the ********** are using solidworks. But it could be vary based on industry.
Autodesk give you the option of buying Inventor in one of their Design Suites for a bit more than buying Inventor alone and If you want Inventor/Inventor Professional and another Autodesk product such as AutoCAD, then the cost of a Suite is cheaper than buying two separate.
Solidworks is most commonly used for designing and assembling
Yes Solidworks is very good software for Designing
