    Drill reaction

    Dear all,

Whilst drilling a carbon fibre component using a power feed drill, as the drill breaks through, we notice the drill jig push away and spring back. The jig is a cantilever type arrangement so some spring back is expected, however we are surprised that it happens as it breaks through the hole. The jig is seen to flex away and then spring back to nominal position.

Any suggestions as to why this is please?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Is this a laminated material or chopped fibre material?

Sounds like the drill jig cantilever arm is not stiff enough. I suppose that some material is coming between the bushing and the drilled material.
