    Plastic Injection Moulding

I am from the UK and wanted to ask about basic principles of plastic injection moulding please.

    http://www.engineersedge.com/manufac...ing-review.htm
I understand from the above link that you put pellet into the hopper, it gets taken into the screw where it melts and then is pushed through into the mould.

    My questions are:

    1) Can someone clarify what the 'mould platen' is?
    2) Can you use moulds which are bigger in dimension than the mould platen?

    Reason I ask is:
The making of very very large parts, i.e plastic doors, boards,

    Thanks.

"Platen" is a sturdy plate to which pressure is applied to for the purpose of compression.

Therefore,a "Mould Platen" is mould (mold) plate to which pressure is applied to.

Can you use moulds which are bigger in dimension than the mould platen?
Probably - ask an injection mouding (mold) manufacturer.
