Can anyone tell me what the appropriate designation is for Metric bolts. I purchase equipment form Europe and one of the manufactures lists the Resistance Classes for Metric Stainless Steel bolts as 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9. I thought that these classes were for Carbon Steel and Alloy. Can they also be used for Stainless Steel? I have been specifying Metric fasteners as A2 (304 s/s) using resistance class 70.
Metric classes or grades of bolts are also used in the USA.. The grades/class designates the base material strength characteristics of the bolt or fastener and not the specific material.
So, yes a metric 10.9 bolt can be made from other materials than carbon steel.
