Looking for resources on methodologies of collapsing containers

Howdies, I have a project in my head that I can't seems to visualize a solution for, and haven't had much luck with the almighty Google and the correct secret phrase that would lead me to the treasure trove of info that must be awaiting me

i am looking for a site or resource that is something like the book 507 Mechanical Movements, but with the topic being methods/systems of taking something (say a container) from one shape and then 'squishing it' along one of the axis, nondestructively, and of course being able to 'unsquish' it back to usable form. Kind of say like an accordion does, but without that many folds and yet still maintaining rigidity whether in compressed or uncompressed form.

solutions can contain collapsible skeletons/frames inside, nothing is set in stone ATM.

    TIA.
