    Support beam

I have a rancher style house and would like to remove the wall between the kitchen and living room, however the wall is load bearing. There is no second floor, just an attic. The wall I'd like to remove holds both joist (lap joist). The span I'd like to support is roughly 20', however I may put a small wall within the 20'. Could you tell me what is the lowest profile beam or lvl I could use.

Classic question we get around here.

There is no way we can know what your requirements are.. You should seek the advice of a local Structural or Architectural engineer.

    Good luck
Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.

As Kelly said. We have no idea of the original design loads, What state code it was originally erected to, the condition of the structure the beam will be bearing onto... The list goes on. A local engineer will be able to better advise you.
