    Beam capacity

    A square tube steel 3.5 x 3.5 x .1875 thk beam would be 120" in length, and cantilevered 60". 60" would be through bolted and adequately supported/integral to a sheer wall. What would be the maximum weight at the cantilevered end without deflection?

    Not being silly but zero applied load means no deflection. With the application of any load on any structural beam there will be a deflection - small but it will occur.

    What is the maximum deflection you realistically need?

    Hi,


    I would like to know the lifting capacity of an I-beam. We have hooks which can carry a load of 1.5 tons each (4nos welded). We have made holes of 6 nos, holes below in the edges of I-beam to anchor and lift a concrete block of 2.8 Tons. We will be lifting off the concrete block by method of chemical anchors. We have 6 nos holes in which we will attach 16mm threaded bolts upto 200mm depth in the concrete block.


    Chemicals and anchors are from Raw plug and they have certified the chemical works.


    I-beam Length being 2 Meters.
    200x200mm x 10mm thick.

    Would like to know if this I-beam can carry a weight of upto 3 tons.

    First, determine the area moment of inertia:

    Input the loading/force, etc. and solve for your design.
