Confused Die Cast or Machined Parts?

    Hi Guys,

I'm working on side design job. I got of couple parts and I would like to convince my client to die cast these parts.

500 pieces I can't see machining all of these parts. They are going into a Humvee project....robust is essential.

Is there much of a cost difference between the 2? Specially with tariffs and stuff. I will probably quote both versions,

    Thanks

500 pieces? The tooling + process development is probably over 100K. Do the math, moreover lead time is way longer with die casting.

You need quotes for both processes..

Another consideration is whether the die-cast parts are adequate in the as-cast condition. If machine allowance is required on the casting and then post-machining to achieve accuracy in selected mating features this is another line item in the costing.

Thanks Kelly.....I just don't want my client to dive into machined parts when we've got another option. I can finish machine areas on the casting to get a nice finish. I'll quote both ways.

Why not a laser cut flat panel from sheet stock and some flush mount rocker switches. No tooling required and safer with no projections off the side panels.
