    Soil Mechanics and Geotechnics help

An undisturbed soil sample is obtained by driving a 100 mm diameter
sampling tube into the ground. The length of the sample is 300 mm. The
mass of the soil at its natural moisture content is 4.20 kg and after oven
drying (at 105 0C) its mass is 3.75 kg.
    Assuming Gs = 2.71.

I need to work out the void ratio.

Now I know that void ratio is voids volume/solids volume but I'm struggling with how to work them out from the information given as I don't know the densitys.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

A fully saturated clay sample has a volume of 185 cc and a weight of 331 g. If the
specific gravity of the soil particles is 2.67.

I need to find the void ratio, porosity, moisture content, bulk density of the soil.

Easy answer: Send the sample to the lab.

For the moisture content, you'll need to oven dry the sample.

Bulk density: Dry = Mass of soil / Volume (whole)

Wet = Mass of soil + liquids / Volume (whole)

Porosity: Particle density - Bulk density / Particle density - Fluid. (wet)

1 - (bulk density / particle density). (air)
