Oil pipe design problem

Hello every one ...I am new here on post ...I came across the design problem which include basic mechanics and some finance too...I tried but could not figure out the final answer...I appreciate your help...oil pipe design problem.jpg...

I attached the the GPEG file...hope u able to open it...

I found difficulties specially in calculating volume flow rate in that problem...as I tried to get Pimping power ..it gives me direct value...actually all i.e. pressure drop,pumping power and volume must be function of Diameter of pipe...

hi ganesh that proplem need evaluate the flow the flow rate it so quit easy but first i want the standard dimention of the petrol barrels .....

The problem is a pure math minimization one

The initial cost is k1*D +k2/D^4 ; cost of pipe+cost of pumps


The operating cost is K3/D4 electric power usage

If you amortize the initial coat over 20 years and add the operating cost you get

annual cost =k1D/20+k2/D^4/20 +k3/d4

The curve of cost vs D will show a minimum

You can find it by setting the 1st derivative to 0 or

K1/20-4k2/20/D^5-4k3/D^5=0
and the solution
1/D=[k1/20/(4k2/20+4k3)]^0.2

D=[(4k2/20+4k3)/k1/20]^0.2

You have to find all the K's which should be easy.
