    Output force of lever-crank mechanism

    Clamp Force line drawing.pdf

    Hi guys.

Am new here and was just looking for a bit of advice on how I would go about solving the above (more information can be provided as needed, sorry for the poor quality of image!). In the sketch, points a & b are fixed pivot points and x, y & z are movable pivot points, Fi is 100N and I want to find output force Ff.

I am designing a clamp system and need to work out how much force will be output through the mechanism with a specified input linear force. I have done such calculations in the past but I cannot for the life of me remember where to even begin with this one!

I know it is probably much more simple than I am making it for myself so I was hoping the clever people on here could help me out.

    Thanks in advance!

The math is somewhat tedious, I recommend you use the 2D statics modeler on this website.

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
