What is the natural frequency of a spring that is fixed on one end and allowed to move tangentially, not axially, on the other? Imagine a compression spring vertically welded to a plate on one end and the plate is shaken horizontally (essentially a cantilever beam. Is the formula for the spring's natural frequency the same as if it were cyclically loaded along its axis? |
