Digits used to represent thicknessess of plates confirm to standards called "Standard Wire Gauge".For Your ready reference some details are given below.
1) 8 swg = 4.06 mm
2) 10 swg = 3.25 mm
3) 12 swg = 2.64 mm
4) 14 swg = 2.03 mm
5) 16 swg = 1.63 mm
6) 18 swg = 1.22 mm
7) 20 swg = 0.914mm
8) 22 swg = 0.711mm
9) 24 swg = 0.558mm
10)26 swg = 0.46 mm
