Edit
D.The vertical movement your are talking about can be achieved by spring loaded panels. Picture this. You have the circle rotating. On the circle you have four, opposing plates with curves on the edge and spring loaded, always wanting to be pushed, or pulled away from the center of the carrier. Now where your opening is in the fornt of the cabinet where your controls eventually have to go thru you have small wheels, ball bearing loaded for low rolling resistance which, whil rotating, pushes the panel inside again. You could also have this trigger the rotation. Similar to if you push against the loading tray of the DVD or CD player. This manual vertical movement, switches the rotation and you have even an AUTOMATED change of controls! The two buttons, can be reduced to one. To unlock the panel with controls your were just playing-working with.I hope this is to understand and implement.
