My favorite method is duct tape and Elmer's glue. Just kidding... humor. Most of the time gears are keyed to the shafts they're driven by. They can be installed with a shrink or press fit. Sometimes the shafts and gears are splined, especially if they need to move on the shaft. Shoulders on the shafts and/or snap rings can be used to hold them in place. Set screws over the keys can sometimes be used keep a gear in place depending on the type and service it's in. Depends on what the situation calls for...? |
