Non-engineer would like assistance with the following problem: Have a span of 12ft (between 2 cylinder block walls). Next - have 2 sections of 1 3/4 inch aluminum square tubing (.100 wall thickness) that when placed together is just short of the 12 ft. walls. Next - place turnbuckle between the 2 sections and turn to increase compression forcing tubes against the 2 walls. Next - how much compression is needed to maintain a top load force of 125 lbs.? Thank you very much!

Just going by feel, I can't see that working as the 12' span will sag (deflect) by it's own weight. Any lateral force applied by turnbuckle will simply increase the sag without adding much (any?) to the force against the wall.

What are you trying to achieve?

Dave
