Hi,

For hydrodynamic journal bearing with D = 50mm running at 3000 rpm, the diametral clearance (2C/D) ratio should be 0.001 as recommended by design books and ANSI standard (RC4, RC5).

However, my boss wants the ratio of 0.008 (2C = 0.4mm). I believe there will be a trouble upon fabrication, however I could not find any publication or books mentioned about this problem to convince him. He also said that ANSI standard does not apply for hydrodynamic bearing, and design books are just recommdendations, it that correct?

Please give me a suggestion if you know.

With thanks,

XAN.
