Clearly we must be speaking about an engine lathe. I'm assuming you are supposed to go out and find the answers and that you don't have a book to read for answers. On that decision I will provide answers.

name and state the purpose of four types of tool post?
-- For the most part, there are only two that are still used, the quick change and the turret. The rocker post hasn't been seriously used in decades. And the single tool post has generally bit the dust as well. The latter two ditched to lost productivity.

how is the size of a lathe determined?
-- By the size work it can hold in diameter and length.

name four main units of a lathe machine.
--The head, the bed, the saddle, and the tail stock.

The head consists of the gear box and chuck.

The saddle consists of the actual saddle, the cross slide, the tool post, the compound, and travel rest when used.

The bed consists of the frame or stand, lead screws, feed selection gear box, taper attachment and the ways.

The center tail stock consists of the center quill and actual tail stock body.

Also, there is the steady rest which attaches to the ways when used.
