I can explain, but first, is it an Engine lathe ... What Kind of lathe is this to be done on? Also, I need to know if you know how to cut an external thread.

OK, then you want to do basically the same thing. Set your compound on 29°. Cut towards the chuck for a normal thread. Be sure to set your compound so that it bottoms out at a hard stop. You when you crank the compound handle the slide should be set so that you are tracing down the back face of the thread at the operator side of the work. Now with the work turning and the cross slide dialed away towards the center go into the bore and touch the tool to the bore. Mark this cross slide setting as position ONE. Move the cross slide away from the mouth of the work and dial it out the amount of a single thread depth. Now mark this as position TWO. With the cross slide still in position TWO dial the compound (at 29° back until the tool will not quite touch the bore when inside the work. Now take a pass and use the cross slide to back away from the bore past position ONE. Pull the tool out and dial a thread cut on to the compound and reset the cross slide to position TWO. Take your second pass dialing in the cross slide past position ONE and removing the tool out of the bore .. dial a new cut amount onto the compound.... continue until you have a completed thread to the hard stop at the compound. If you need just a little more to fit the gauge, dial it off the cross slide to cut at 0°.
