NEED HELP WITH CANTILEVERED BEAMS

Hello, Im a year 12 student in Australia and i really need help with a major assignment dealing with Cantilvered beams and deflection. I need a formula that can either show YOung's Modulus dealing with Balsa wood. I used variables in width, length, thickness and weight. Everytime i measure one variable the other 3 stay the same and i need a formula that doesn't include the MOMENT OF INERTIA part in it. The beam was placed on the edge of a table and the other end not supported while the table side was clamped firm. Please reply with some help :D.

Sorry to disappoint you, but you're going to need some form of moment of inertia factor to calculate deflection.

Not sure I understand your problem with MOMENT OF INERTIA. If you just don't understand that, try this:

MOMENT OF INERTIA for a square or rectangular beam is b*h^3/12 where b is width (of face in contact with the table top) and h is height (how tall the beam is). To calculate the MODULUS OF ELASTICITY (E) of the beam:

E = 4*P*L^3/(ymax*b*h^3) where P is the weight hanging off the end of the beam at a point "X", L is the distance from the table edge to "X", ymax is the vertical deflection of the beam at "X", b is beam width and h is beam height.
