Try an auto battery charger.. everything you need in one package.. Get one that charges both a 6 and a 12 volt battery. If you purchase a large copper wound reostat and place it in series with the - terminal, and place a voltage meter (a cheap digital one) across the terminals of the tank, you can adjust the voltage drop across the tank terminals to your desired voltages. I've seen the large wattage reostats in surplus stores, you can also order one from one of the major catalog supply houses. It needs to handle around 100 watts or more for long time cycle duty. .... after all, when you charge a lead acid battery, you are actually doing "pretty much" what you want to do. The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them.
