Blowdown Time in Unsteady Gas Flow Calculator and Equation.

Blowdown is a planned or unplanned release of pressurized gas from storage or containment. High pressure blowdown leads to low temperatures within the fluid and high vent rates due to larger gas inventory volumes. Blowdown can be a hazardous operation and the estimation of the blowdown rate and the blowdown time should be understood nd accounted for.

Eq. 1
t = ( ( B · V ) / ( Cd · Av ) ) · ( γ / ( z · T ) ) 0.5 · ln ( Pa / Pb )

Where:

V = Pressurized Volume (ft3)
Cd = Valve Discharge Coefficient (dimensionless)
Av = Effective Valve Area (in.2)
γ = Gas Specific Density (dimensionless)
z = Average Gas Compressibility Factor (dimensionless)
T = Temperature (K)
Pa = Initial Pressure (Gauge) (psi)
Pb = Output Pressure (Gauge) (psi)
B = Constant
t = Interstitial Velocity (cm/s)
