    Actually, I thought it was a practical thread.. A common challenge we have in engineering is specifying mechanical tolerances that are unachievable by the target manufacturing processes.

    Clearly the op was expecting more accuracy than what could be achieved using caveman tools. The points made about verifying the accuracy were spot on..

    (I'm not going to bother doing the math on this one since it is not important.)

    Assuming you have unlimited raw material and time, you can make a whole bunch (say, 1,000) of your cuboid or whatever geometric shape.

    Then, assuming statistics is not forbidden in your scenario, at least one of the parts should be within your specified tolerance.

    This is also assuming you are allowed to use a measuring tool accurate to within .01mm.

    BUT, if you are not allowed to use a modern measuring device, it is even easier. Might as well just redefine the millimeter and call it a day.
