Hello,
I’m new!
Unfortunately, I’m not an engineer :(

I’m looking for a little help to determine which of 2 design options I have that would offer me the greatest strength. I’m thinking this will be an easy one for you guys to answer, but I don’t have understanding of structural design to know the answer myself.

The project calls for a set of car ramps that will be 14 feet in length and 1 foot in width for the tires to ride on.

The 2 designs currently being considered both use square tubing aligned and welded side by side to achieve the final width of 12 inches.

Option 1:
Uses four 14 foot pieces of 3”x3” (11ga.) steel welded side by side to make up 12” needed width.

Option 2:
Uses three 14 foot pieces of 4”x4” (11ga.) steel welded side by side to make up 12” needed width.

I’m assuming it will be made with A36 steel (most common). Also, for reference, 11 ga. steel has a wall thickness of 0.120” or 3mm.

Thank you!
